R. Michael Kight. Mike
was a trial lawyer for over two decades, handling personal injury,
property damage, contract and real estate litigation for both
plaintiffs and defendants. For the past 15 years, however, he has
limited his practice to non-litigation aspects of real estate,
contract and business law. He handles sales of businesses and real
estate, advises clients on contract, business and corporate matters,
and is involved in the formation of business entities including
corporations, limited liability companies and partnerships. In
addition, he assists clients with their estate planning, by preparing
wills, trusts and related documents necessary for the protection of
their assets, both before and after death.
Mike was born and raised in Walla Walla. He graduated from the
University of Washington Schools of Business and Law. After graduation
from law school he returned to Walla Walla to practice law. Four years
later he was persuaded by his college friend, Henry Newton, to move to
Everett, where he joined Henry and Henry's father, Arthur, in the
Newton and Newton Law Firm.
Mike has participated in legal, civic and social services activities.
He was Chairman of a division of the Washington State Bar Association,
served on several State Bar Association Committees, and has acted as a
hearing officer for lawyer disciplinary cases. He was President of the
Everett Area Chamber of Commerce, and served on the local and state
boards of the Washington Lung Association. He previously served as
a Director of and legal counsel for EverTrust Bank. He continues to
serve on the Advisory Board of the Everett Corps of the Salvation Army,
for which he was Chairman at one time. He enjoys singing in the Men's
Chorus sponsored by the Everett Gospel Mission, for which he is the
legal counsel, and is a member of the Christian Legal Society.
