Mike retired from the practice of law effective December 31, 2009.
During his 46 years of practice, Mike handled personal injury, property damage,
contract and real estate litigation for both plaintiffs and defendants;
real estate, contract and business law; sales of businesses and real estate;
business and corporate matters; formation of business entities including corporations,
limited liability companies and partnerships; and estate planning.
Mike was born and raised in Walla Walla. He graduated from the
University of Washington Schools of Business and Law. After graduation
from law school he returned to Walla Walla to practice law. Four years
later he was persuaded by his college friend, Henry Newton, to move to
Everett, where he joined Henry and Henry's father, Arthur, in the
Newton and Newton Law Firm.
Mike has participated in legal, civic and social services activities.
He was Chairman of a division of the Washington State Bar Association,
served on several State Bar Association Committees, and has acted as a
hearing officer for lawyer disciplinary cases. He was President of the
Everett Area Chamber of Commerce, and served on the local and state
boards of the Washington Lung Association. He has previously served as
a Director of and legal counsel for EverTrust Bank, and on the Advisory
Board of the Everett Corps of the Salvation Army, and is a member of the
Christian Legal Society. He also enjoys singing in various groups,
including the Men's Chorus sponsored by the Everett Gospel Mission and the
Everett Chorale.
